The 14th Annual Torrey Film Festival occurred on Monday, March 23, at the Four Flowers Theatre. This year’s theme was “Absurd and Unusual,” and featured outside of the theatre were peculiar snacks– gummy bugs in a chocolate terrarium, candy fingers and eyeballs, and seemingly normal pretzels. Filmmakers displayed their storyboards in the hallways, posed with fun props in front of the step-and-repeat, and, of course, showcased their incredible films.
A total of 26 films and commercials were shown by 11 different filmmakers. Each film was created in class for a project throughout the year. At the end of the night, awards were voted on and presented by audience members.
Best Affect Film: Odious (Omar Anzar)
Best Silent Film: Mayhaps Not (Sophie Kozma)
Best Secret Subtext Film: Steak (Maren Johnson and Mia Rosenberg)
Best Travel Vlog: Lightning Bug (Calder Baker-Hefley)
Best Waiting Film: Prison Break (Julian Frederick, Yug Shah, and Brandon Harris)
Best Commercial: eau de TOILETte (Maren Johnson)
Best Actor: Omar Anzar
Thank you to all of our incredible filmmakers for this show, and an extra special thank you to our seniors: Sofie Kozma, Brandon Harris, Yug Shah, Julian Frederick, Kelsey Lewis, and Justin Jacobs, who has taken film class all four years of high school.
