On February 26th, the La Jolla Country Day School’s chapter of the National Art Honors Society (NAHS) sponsored an LJCDS art festival in the VASC quad. The group had live music, good food, student art copies for sale, and a variety of activities.
The art festival is held annually as an opportunity for students to showcase their work and connect with their community. This year, the art festival was “feast”- themed, with different types of art creatively representing foods. As it is LJCDS’s centennial anniversary, the festival was also a celebration of 100 years of Country Day! At the festival, students from different grades connected through face painting and just spending time celebrating art together.
All proceeds from the art sales went to Kitchens for Good, a nonprofit organization that NAHS chose to donate to this year. It teaches children in underfunded schools how to use produce efficiently in cooking.
The National Art Honors Society is supervised by Ms. McInytre and led by a few elected student members. Each week’s lunch meetings are spent planning for the art festival, art exhibitions, murals, and any other projects NAHS wants to do. NAHS planned every detail of the art festival to make it as engaging as possible for students of all ages.
