The final sports season of the 2025-2026 school year has just finished. From February to May, Boys Volleyball, Girls Softball, Boys Tennis, Girls and Boys Lacrosse, Boys Golf, Girls Beach Volleyball, Boys Baseball, Track and Field, and Swim and Dive were all in action. What follows is an update on the seasons through April 20. Final season outcomes are available on the online edition.
Girls Beach Volleyball had a great season, despite the departure of many key players due to graduation last year. The Torreys had an overall record of 11-5, and went 7-0 in League play. The season started off with a win against Eastlake, setting up the season’s successful campaign. They had dominant wins against Santa Fe Christian and Pacific Ridge, winning both matches 5-0. I reached out to Adrie Voigtlander about the season, and she said “The team has had a pretty decent season so far and we’re hoping to keep that momentum going toward a bye for round 1 playoffs, especially with only 2 games left in our regular season. I’m looking forward to our first playoff match and have high hopes that we can make it farther this season!” They finished the season with a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to University City.
Boys Golf is having one of their best seasons in recent years, and have finally completed the establishment of the very first golf simulators on campus. The Torreys had an overall record of 12-10, with dominant wins over Francis Parker and Mission Bay. I spoke to James Field and Pablo Pastrana on what this season has brought, and they said “The 25’-26’ season has gone extremely well for the La Jolla Country Day golf team. Our new players have been amazing additions to the team, and have helped lead us to be ranked as the 10th overall golf team in all of San Diego. We believe the season will continue tremendously, due to our player’s great effort and talent. We would love to thank Coach Chachas and Coach Adair for pouring their blood, sweat and tears into this program and our previous captains Owen Field and William Mirhashemi for laying down the framework for creating a good golf team.”
Girls Lacrosse finished with an overall record of 9-7, 3-2 in League play, finishing 4th. The first game of the season happened on February 25 at home against Sage Creek, who they defeated 12-9 to start off the season on a good note. Since then, the season has been a rollercoaster, going back and forth with wins and losses. They have had dominant wins against the Canyon Crest Ravens, winning 15-3, and against the Classical Academy Caimans, winning 16-6. They finished the season with a devastating 17-5 loss to Del Norte in tournament play.
Boys Lacrosse went through a difficult season. They finished with an overall record of 7-11, having to face one of the toughest counties for the sport. The season started on February 23, with a heartbreaking 13-14 loss against Santana High School. However, they have been able to get dominant wins against Rancho Bernardo, winning 11-4, and against Francis Parker, winning 15-4. I reached out to Christian Heimbold, and he said “We have had great brotherhood and teamwork, despite things not always going our way” The Torreys finished the season with a 17-6 loss to Santa Fe Christian in the playoffs.
Boys Baseball has been led by Coach Edman to yet another year full of success for the Torreys. They finished with an overall record of 21-11, and a 9-3 record in the Coastal League, finishing first. Opening Day was on February 27, with a very close 5-6 loss at Poway High School. Fortunately, this start to the season did not affect the team’s ability to keep fighting against strong opposition. The Torreys continued their rivalry against the La Jolla Vikings, winning 6-5, and beating close-by University City 3-2. The Torreys also had dominant wins against Maranatha Christian, taking 2 out of a 3 game series, winning the second and third games 10-0 and 11-4. They finished the regular season taking 2 out of a 3 game series against Santa Fe Christian.
Girls Softball has had one of the most disappointing seasons, in both the program’s and the school’s history. Part of the team’s failure was being one player down the whole season, finishing with an overall record of 0-4-1 (W-L-T). Opening Day happened on February 23, at home against Foothills Christian. This would turn out to be their best game of the season, finishing with a 0-0 tie after 10 innings, both teams throwing a no-hitter. On March 20, the Torreys got shut out 13 to nothing by Flintridge Sacred Heart. 4 days later, they travelled to La Jolla High, getting demolished by the Vikings 8-18. The following day, they were back at home to face the Francis Parker Lancers. Once again, the Torreys were hammered, losing 1-20. For the final game of the season, the Torreys travelled to Maranatha Christian, where they were destroyed 1-22. They were outscored 10-73 in the season, a run differential of -63. I reached out to the softball team and they said, “While the softball season ended quickly, our spirits didn’t.” Some highlights of the season were Mia Heppner’s .556 batting average, and Emma Buberl’s 100% fielding percentage.
Boys Tennis also had a strenuous season, facing a county full of very difficult opposition. The Torreys finished with an overall record of 3-9. The season started with a 4-14 loss to the San Dieguito Mustangs. However, the team did have a very dominant win against Santa Fe Christian, winning 15-3. The big news this season is the departure of 10 seniors, who make up most of the team, creating the possibility of the program not having a junior varsity team next year. Luckily, the team will still be able to put up some fight with the remaining players.
Boys Volleyball had a rollercoaster of a season, with an overall record of 10-14, and winning the Coastal League with a league record of 3-3. This season’s headline is the sudden news of Felix Dittmar’s departure from the school at the end of the season. I had the opportunity to speak to him about his farewell season, and he said “We improved a lot with great coaching, a team environment, and look forward to the next seasons.” He has connected so much with this team that despite him leaving the program after only two seasons, he is still looking forward to what his teammates will accomplish in the future.
Track and Field has one of the smallest teams in recent years, unexpectedly. This season’s headline has been Reed Gasser finally breaking a school record. Reed broke Lucas Heldman’s previous record of 6’2’’, and jumped 6’2.5.’’

I spoke to senior Leo Valero on what this season has brought for the team, and he said “This track season has been one to remember, and a great way to end my high school career. I have been battling with injuries throughout the season, but have had great support from my teammates and coaches.”
Swim and Dive has had a great season this year, going completely undefeated. I spoke to Gillian Slavin and Hannah Abraham about this amazing season, and they said “Our swimmers are hungry for success, and we feel Chick-fil-A in our future.” The swimmers are excited to eat Chick-fil-A at their team lunch, and eager to keep winning at every pool they encounter.
