The 2025 Emmys were held on Sunday, August 14th, in Los Angeles at the Peacock Theater. This year’s Emmys were record breaking. Seth Rogen’s The Studio won 13 Emmys, and 15 year old Owen Cooper won best supporting actor in a limited series for his role in Adolescence. 13 Emmys is the most a comedy series has ever won, and Cooper is one the youngest Emmy winners ever. This year’s Emmys was hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze. In order to inspire award winners to keep their speeches short, Bargatze turned the night into a fundraiser on behalf of the Boys and Girls Club. When winners spoke under 45 seconds, money would be added to the fundraiser, and when they went over, money would be deducted. However, by the end of the event, the dollar amount was in the negatives.
The Studio, a comedy about the movie production business, won best comedy series, best directing for a comedy series, best writing for a comedy series, and best lead actor in a comedy series, among others. This was Smart’s 4th win for her role in Hacks, where she plays an aging comedian figuring out how to propagate her career in the second half of her life. Best supporting actor in a comedy series went to Jeff Hiller for his role Somebody Somewhere.
