Three thousand adolescents, nineteen committees, four days. The Hague International Model United Nations celebrated its 58th anniversary this year, and LJCDS was well represented, as usual.
The team received their most important allocation yet, the Delegation of Turkiye. While Noa Cohen and Iain Halloran were the odd ones out as China in a historical committee, the rest of the team researched, studied, and practiced pronunciation in the hopes to do Turkiye proud, and the feedback they received from the Turks at the conference was incredibly positive.
For the first time, our TorreyMUN team had a main submitter, but we didn’t stop at one—we had two. Both Dora Zhong and Maren Johnson braved the approval panel of advisors to present resolutions representing the views of their blocs, and while Maren’s was sadly rejected by her committee, Dora’s successfully passed.
From trying escargot to jumping madly out of the bike lane, the TorreyMUN team thoroughly enjoyed their time in the Netherlands this year. As one of the secretariat said in his closing speech, diplomacy may look and feel like it’s failing. But we were there, together, sharing ideas, and that’s what the future will be. Us.
