The annual Del Mar Fair, officially known as the San Diego County Fair, is set to start on the 11th of June. This year’s theme is “Summer Pet-tacular.” With 145 years since it was first established, it is the oldest running, and most famous, fair in San Diego County. Consequently, it has a diverse list of activities for everyone to enjoy.
Fitting of this year’s theme, animal exhibitions have been popular for years at the fair. The San Diego County Fair’s Livestock program offers visitors a chance to explore a variety of animals, including pigs, goats, horses, etc.
It also has a wide variety of other activities. Rollercoasters and food are all staples of the San Diego County Fair. The art gallery provides a quieter space for families. It showcases both student art and professional art in many different media such as painting, graphite, and photography.
The San Diego County Fair was first held in 1880 as a simple agricultural fair. It wasn’t until 1936 that it forever settled at the Del Mar Fairgrounds annually. In its history, it has only been canceled for three events: World War I from 1917-19, World War II from 1942-45, and the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. Other than those years, the Del Mar fair has been a fun event for many San Diegans to enjoy.
