As La Jolla Country Day prepares to bid farewell to this year’s seniors, The Palette decided to get some insight into their experiences here, as well as their thoughts on the future. Our seniors reflected on their favorite memories, achievements, traditions, and most embarrassing moments. The soon-to-be graduates look back fondly on their Experiential Education trips, their senior retreat, and spending time with teammates on the field. The achievements that meant the most to them include finding lifelong friends, leading flexes and clubs that helped them grow, winning CIF, overcoming tough finals, and, of course, graduating high school. Many seniors shared embarrassing stories from their time in the lower school and as underclassmen, including getting suspended for biting another student, accidentally throwing an egg at the wall in freshman physics, and getting pantsed in front of the seniors when they were a sophomore. The favorite traditions of the soon-to-be graduates include the homecoming football game, wearing blue on Fridays, Olympic day, and senior year traditions such as senior assassin and the senior retreat. One sheepish student answered, “We have traditions?”
Looking to the future, LJCDS seniors are very excited about going to college and traveling the world. Their plans for the summer and beyond include joining a Mars rover design team, finding their passions, studying in Washington D.C., making new friends, and playing basketball at the park with their siblings. If given the opportunity to repeat high school, many seniors would be sure to repeat EE trips such as the Charleston and Texas trips, joining sports teams, and taking specific classes taught by beloved teachers. As for advice, they recommend remembering to enjoy your high school years, not procrastinating, and being productive during free blocks.
