The wait is over; Moana 2 will be released on November 27! Since its initial release in 2016, the popular Disney movie Moana has garnered lots of attention for its catchy music and portrayals of native Hawaiian people. Since then, fans of the movie have been anxiously awaiting a sequel. Fortunately for those fans, that time is coming soon. While watching the movie, the most eagle-eyed fans may notice that while Moana sails across the Pacific, her catamaran may look slightly different. This is because audio-engineering and everything-manufacturer Yamaha (in partnership with Disney) has endorsed her famed vessel. The models used in the movie are all animated replicas of Yamaha’s own boats, with some modifications to match the time period. All the boats used in the movie will each bear a hidden Yamaha logo. In a statement released last month, Disney CEO Bob Iger said that this partnership with Yamaha “would open up new avenues for each of the companies in the future.” The goal of this partnership is to show viewers of the movie that yes, a company really can manufacture everything. In an interview last month, Yamaha CEO Yoshihiro Hidaka said that “many people believe that a company being…able to fabricate such a vast variety of items is impossible and illogical, but that it is false.” Yamaha is known to produce motorcycles, musical instruments, water vehicles, home appliances, and more. Moana 2 will star Auliʻi Cravalho as the titular Moana and Dwayne Johnson as the arrogant but soft-hearted Maui, as well as Khalessi Lambert-Tsuda as Moana’s little sister. Lin-Maunel Miranda will not be writing music for this sequel, possibly because he is too busy, or because he is too expensive. The movie will follow Moana as she travels across the ocean at her ancestors’ unexpected request. The first movie received praise for its accurate and lifelike ocean and water, and we should expect no less from the second movie.
