In the race to create a seamless sign-in experience for both students and school administrative staff, the CheckPoint system has emerged as a modern solution. Checkpoint’s founders, Matthew DuBois and Luke Graham, emphasized the importance of creating a vertically integrated system, involving innovation in hardware, software, and backend services from the early stages of the company.
The user interface designed around Checkpoint allows for a quick and easy student experience simply requiring them to hold their phone next to the Checkpoint device and within seconds they are signed in. At the center of the CheckPoint system is the hardware itself. CheckPoint utilizes a uniquely designed 3D printed and laser-cut plastic that houses a contactless chip. These components provide a rapid way to sign in while operating without the need for power or an internet connection, ensuring reliability and accessibility. The groundbreaking hardware is accompanied by two key software components: CD Checkpoint, designed for students, and Manger, used by attendance staff. The CD Checkpoint application stands out from other systems by allowing students to complete the sign-in process from various locations across campus in under 10 seconds via a single button. On the other hand, the Manager side of CheckPoint is tailored to the needs of administrative staff, offering a simple, easy-to-use interface designed with a powerful search filter and archive features. Throughout the design process, the CheckPoint team has worked diligently to create a meticulously designed product, showcasing a focus on details evident in the user experience.
The CheckPoint team began development in August of 2023, later releasing a beta version of the software to a select group of students in October. During December, CheckPoint went live for the entirety of the Upper School. Receiving positive feedback since its introduction, CheckPoint creators express their excitement for where CheckPoint will end up in the near future.
In this world, where convenience is key, CheckPoint stands as a beacon of innovation, offering a look into the future of campus sign-in systems.
