Senior Sports Commitments

Country Day continues to show its best both on the field and in the classroom. The Class of 2022 currently boasts fifteen commits for sports: baseball, volleyball, swim and dive, football, soccer, and tennis. Congratulations to:
BASEBALL –
JOHNNY LUETZOW, C/3B – SANTA CLARA UNIVERSITY
Johnny Luetzow is a Senior Captain and a 4-year Varsity Letterman. He is a Catcher, 3B, SS, and RHP for the Torreys, and is chasing the San Diego Stolen Base Record. He is making a strong case for All-CIF First Team and solidifying his name as one of the top players in San Diego. He is committed to Santa Clara University.
JAKE BOLD, C/1B – PRINCETON UNIVERSITY
Jake Bold is a Senior Captain and a 3-year Varsity Letterman. He is a Catcher, RHP, 1B, and OF for the Torreys. He was an All-Star as a Junior and is one of the best catchers in San Diego. He is committed to Princeton.
CHRIS ESQUIVEL, MIF – UNIVERSITY OF SAN DIEGO
Chris Esquivel is a middle-infielder as well as a RHP and Captain for the Torreys. He is highly regarded by his fellow teammates and his coaches. He is staying in San Diego and is committed to the University of San Diego.
DANIEL SHAUL, LHP – GRINNELL COLLEGE
Daniel Shaul is a Left-Handed Pitcher and 1B for the Torreys and is a highly-regarded pitcher in San Diego, known for his breaking ball. He is committed to Grinnell College.
HUON FITZPATRICK, RHP – EMERSON COLLEGE
Huon Fitzpatrick is a right-handed pitcher for the Torreys. Highly regarded for his work ethic and perseverance, he is beloved by his teammates. He is committed to Emerson College.
SWIM –
SHAWN ZHOU, FREESTYLE – JOHNS HOPKINS UNIVERSITY
Shawn is a Spring and Freestyler and a Short-Distance Swimmer. He currently has beaten the school record in the 200 medley relay twice as well as breaking two more records in the 200 free and the 100 free in 2021. He is committed to Johns Hopkins University where he will continue to dominate the competition at the collegiate level.
DANI HACKMAN, 500M – WASHINGTON & LEE UNIVERSITY
Dani is a distance swimmer who holds the school record in the 500m. She also broke the school records for the 200 medley and 200 free relays. She is hardworking and a high achiever. She is committed to Washington & Lee University in Lexington City, Virginia where she will no doubt continue to break records.
JERRY ZHOU, SPRINT-FLY – THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO
Jerry is a Sprint-Fly who is described as a kind, outgoing teammate. He broke the school record in the 50 free (which stood since 2003) and the school 200 medley record. He is committed to the University of Chicago, where he will dominate the competition.
FOOTBALL –
SAM ALLIGOOD, OL/DL – CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY
Sam Alligood is a 3-year Letterman for the Torreys as well as Senior Captain who currently is on the First-Team All-Decade LJCDS Team, First-Team All-CIF, and First-Team All-Coastal League for his 2021 efforts for the Torreys. He is committed and signed to Carnegie Mellon University, a Division III program in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
TONI LI, OL – UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO
Toni Li is a 2-year Letterman who was the starting center last year and a defensive lineman. He was Second-Team All-Coastal League and is committed to the University of Toronto.
EVAN HIREMATH, WR – THE UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING
Evan Hiremath is a 3-year letterman for the Torreys as well as a First-Team All-Coastal League Wide Receiver. He is committed to the University of Wyoming.
SOCCER –
ALEX GLYNN, GK – CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY
Alex Glynn is a 3-year Goalkeeper and Captain for the Torreys. He has the honor of the Union-Tribune Athlete of the Week to his name. He is committed to Chapman University.
TENNIS –
CAMDEN FRENCH – DENISON UNIVERSITY
Camden French is a nationally-revered tennis player, ranked in the Junior Boys’ 18U category for USTA. He committed to continue to display his Tennis talents at Denison University.
VOLLEYBALL –
HAILEY GRIMAUD, OH/MH – DOMINICAN UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA
Hailey Grimaud is an outside hitter and a middle blocker and a captain for the Torreys whose numbers in Kills and Aces surpassed the national median tremendously. She is committed to Dominican University of California.
OLIVIA SAMPSON, OH – CHAPMAN UNIVERSITY
Olivia Sampson is an outside hitter (OH) and a captain for the Torreys Volleyball Program who has displayed greatness on and off the court. She is committed to Chapman University.
MEN’S BASKETBALL –
JAKE BLUESTEIN, SG – MASSACHUSETTS COLLEGE OF LIBERAL ARTS
Jake Bluestein is a shooting guard and a 4-year letter winner for the Torreys. He received the D1 CIF Sportsmanship Award. Jake is described not only as a winner and fighter but also as a leader by his coaches and teammates. He is committed to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
The Class of 2022 has been described as one of the most hardworking classes of athletes in Country Day history by coaches and teachers, and even since they were freshmen, seemed destined to be something special in this arena. Congratulations to the student-athletes who committed to further their academic and athletic careers.
