Winter sports coverage

Winter Sports has started off with an absolute bang. Our women’s basketball team is undefeated and is the number one high school team in California. After an electric victory against Sierra Canyon, our women’s basketball team has become the number one team in the NATION!. A highlight from their amazing season includes Jazzy Anousinh ‘21 hitting a deep three pointer to win in triple overtime against San Diego rival school, Cathedral Catholic. The team emerged victorious from the Nike TOC (Tournament of Champions) in Arizona, which earned them a ranking above every other high school women’s basketball program in the country.

Our men’s team isn’t doing too bad either, playing fantastic at the Punahou Basketball Invitational in Honolulu, HI. They picked up their second win over Sacramento Adventist Academy. They are a young team, with their talent in the underclassmen, but they already show the potential  to join CD basketball’s winning reputation.

Men’s soccer hasn’t been disappointing either. The team has a current record of 5-2-3, and in their important  contest on December 20th against Guajome Park, they won 4-1. They most recently defeated El Capitan High school by a score of 3-2 on their first day back from break.

Women’s soccer also won against Serra, 1-0. Their record is currently 4-4 coming out of winter break. The team has been led by leading scorer senior Josie Rooney, goalkeeper Kiki Smith, and senior Ava Jessen. This winter break has allowed many alumni to return to San Diego and take part in their program’s annual alumni game. New faces challenge old during the alumni games for many of our winter sports teams, followed by a fun barbeque. Torreys Lacrosse put on a fun event as well as Country Day Basketball during the holiday break.

We are very excited for what promises to be a historic winter season here at La Jolla Country Day!
